Sandton Square

MANDELA SQUARE, SANDTON

Africa’s first decade of democracy. A donated six-meter bronze statue of Nelson Mandela was unveiled, and the square-foot was renamed Nelson Mandela Square in Sandton City.

The shoulders of this statue are 1.7 meters in diameter, and the sneakers are 1 meter in length. The intention of the figure isn’t just to honor the former president’s vision of a free and only South Africa but also to make a focal point at which local and overseas tourists may reflect on the events that caused the production of the Rainbow Nation.

Here, you may always see tourists urgently attempting to obtain a photograph of themselves standing alongside this tall statue. An already trendy area with its sidewalk cafes, fine dining room, and 93 exclusive stores, Nelson Mandela Square has grown into among the trendy places in South Africa. Its prime location in the heart of Sandton enables simple access to the financial district, the Sandton Convention Centre, excellent resorts, and Sandton City’s 295 magnificent shops.

The Square was developed to bring to life an Italian-styled piazza beneath the African skies.

To get a shopping pleasure, a gastronomic adventure at some of those world-class restaurants, or only a historic learning adventure, a visit to Nelson Mandela Square is an absolute must!

No matter your reason for seeing Johannesburg, encounter Nelson Mandela Square.
